I found this on ebay. There's a circulated 1956 Lincoln Wheat cent selling for $699.99 or best offer:

What is so rare about a circulated 1956 Lincoln Cent?

Nothing, he's looking for offers. ebay forces sellers to put in a BIN to accept offers which is incredibly stupid. They always put in a very high BIN so they can get offers for many days. It's been a very effective sales tactic on ebay for years.

I guess the "it's for charity" bit is supposed to make me want to hand over hundreds of dollars for a 1956 Lincoln Cent - and it isn't even uncirculated.

Not sure what this means. For Variety it has "l in Liberty lives on the rim". I don't see anything like that on this coin.

Can you elaborate on that? For a while I've suspected something like that was in play. I had wondered if they weren't arranging sales for a specific buyer, who would then offer them a much, much lower pre-agreed amount. In essence, using ebay as a for-fee clearing house for an Internet transaction arranged elsewhere.

Yeah, total scam, all too many of them out there (scams that is)
10% to charity just means if some poor sole does buy this coin the seller still pockets
$630.00 for a coin worth 1 cent, in unremarkable condition.
Note: the item description sounds like it was AI generated...

Here's another coin from the same crook. I love in the description where it says "Certified As Uncertified."

What a Joke!

part of same description:
"This exquisite Lincoln Wheat penny is a rare and shining example of numismatic excellence. With a stunning radiance that is sure to catch the eye"

Am I buying a Used 1987 Buick here? Does it come with a warranty?

I also like how in the 1956 ad, the copy states that "The year 1956 is a significant year in the history of the United States and this coin is a great way to commemorate it."

Am I missing something? Other than Elvis releasing "Hound Dog" and Don Larsen pitching a perfect game in the World Series, what was significant about 1956?

I kinda blame youtube & tiktok because now I see so many articles like this.... "CHECK YOUR CHANGE I sifted through rolls of dimes from the bank & discovered 'mirror-like finish' on 3 coins - now it's worth up to $456k" .... https://www.the-sun.com/money/10235...like-finish/ . The dime in the article pic, is a Denver & not a proof.

I've heard that these listings are often associated with criminal drug deals. Anyone have any info on this?
