2004 £2 coin from Great Britain, showing the first steam locomotive built by Cornish engineer Richard Trevithick in 1804. He built four locomotives, one of which hauled a passenger car around a short circular track in London in 1808. Passengers paid one shilling for the ride, but it was treated more as a fairground attraction than a serious form of transport. 2018 British 50 pence coin showing Paddington Bear, the famous children's book character invented by Michael Bond. Paddington takes his name from the London train station where the Brown family find him in the first book. The train in the background is identifiable as a British Rail Inter-City 125 diesel. Introduced in 1976 and at that time the fastest diesel trains in the world, they could reach 125 miles per hour. Some are still in service in Scotland and South-West England:
