RW1010, the scraped design rim on your 2023 cent appears to be post-strike damage.

That's what I thought but I am no pro. Could you elaborate a bit on "This is an example of pre-strike, post-plating planchet damage. Completely different from a case of incomplete electroplating."

With incomplete electroplating, the cent planchet emerges from the electroplating bath with an incomplete layer of copper plating. In the case of pre-strike, post-plating damage, the cent planchet starts out with a complete covering of copper plating. Some mishap later scrapes off part of the plating before the planchet enters the coining press.

Thanks mikediamond for the info. I don't want to hijack coinhusker26s thread with my bad photos. I'll start my own with better pics. It could be damage but I think better pics are needed to see the similarities

It's interesting. There are many shields seen with different forms of pre strike Planchet damage. Some bigger then others.
