Came across this 1909 VDB while going through a $50 bag of pennies. Could this be the Matte Proof? Its features are very very detailed for this old of a coin with a wider rim, also the inner rim is a very sharp drop to the face of the obverse and reverse. It can also stand very easily on its rim. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I agree that it is most definitely a special find for being circulated. I just really thought that it was special in the sense that maybe it was a matte proof. I mean from what I gathered on that specific coin, I really thought I had it.
yes, just a regular business strike - the fields are too smooth - the matte proof has a texture to it like it was lightly sandblasted.. here is a PCGS Example: https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin...b-1c-bn/3300
Three were only like 1194 matte 1909 VDB proofs made, the chance of finding one is a bad is extremely remote. And I wish I had one too.
