Quote: Willy's unshaven smiling WWII mug wearing steel pot would have been a dynamite privy. I know I messed up the quote, oh well. For the Marines the flag raisers on Mt Suribachi. For the Navy I can't think of a great one, maybe just an anchor.

Great pic of front lines Willy for those not familiar with "Willy and Joe" of WWII.

The packaging does indeed look quite nice. I have the one on backorder which is all I was looking for. Two more with the Navy and the Marine Corps in the fall. I look forward to the Army one arriving next month.
It would have been nice to issue commemorative coins for all three services on their 250th Anniversary, but this will work, much better than a medal.
As for an image for a United States Navy coin, the USS Arizona comes to mind. 1,177 men died on that Battleship that Sunday morning and are interred there. One of them is family relative. I looked out over the memorial from our home in the hills there from 1973 to 1998. That is a sacred place that still leaks oil to this day.

I guess they are probably paying proper due to each service by simply using the official seal of each one. When you consider how much each has contributed to the history of the Nation. To simply condense it down to Iwo Jima, Pearl Harbor, and, uh, "dogfaces", sort of slights the entire history to just a couple keystone moments.

Surprised that the preorder is still available considering the fiasco of opening day.

Sales figure through Jul13 was 96,776 - Jul20 is now down to 93,296. Cancellations by buyers or by the mint?

I would imagine a little (lot?) of both. ~3500 delta is a pretty steep change. Maybe some of the big guys / speculators realized it wasn't an instant sellout after all and are cancelling orders.

It's helping that the Mint has been keeping the HHL in place. Wondering if they'll remove it once they start shipping (and the big boy dealers will buy up the last 7k to hype up a sellout).

Quote: the big boy dealers will buy up the last 7k to hype up a sellout In a scenario like this, is the significance of a sell out somehow reduced? Does it matter the grading companies or resellers buy up the last bit?

Quote: Does it matter the grading companies or resellers buy up the last bit? Can they really prove it one way or the other? The big boy dealers already get around the household limits with shill buyers, so who is to say they have not already stocked up?

Quote: The big boy dealers already get around the household limits with shill buyers, so who is to say they have not already stocked up? With the order limit still at 1, I would think the big retail sellers would have somewhat of a tough time getting shill buyers. Back during 2021 when I think the order limit was 10 (referring to the Peace/Morgan centennials), then it probably made more sense (edit: more sense that retailers would use shill buyers to get stocked up). I think this is what lead to the situation now. I got what I wanted, but there were a lot of disappointed people who were left out in the cold (in 2021) due exactly to this. No idea why someone at the mint didn't see this happening. There's no way those releases wouldn't have at least lasted an hour or two vs under 15 minutes. People at the mint at that time I think just didn't understand the hobby end of things or the business side of things. It was just so unfair to the hobbyists that ultimately fuel the numismatic/collector side of the Mint. This Army release has been pretty odd, but at least I feel everyone that has wanted a raw version of this ASE is able to get one without turning to third party sellers and paying prices over the already inflated prices. $105 is bad enough! I don't complain on here about the prices, but really feeling it with all these releases, next year will probably be even worse, and if they keep coming up with bullion privy marks too? Man O man.

Nice Post Gilly, I suppose The American Silver Eagle Bullion Program Would Do Well to continue the " Privy marks ", On bullion. Many Here do Not collect the Bullion examples, that do Not have a Mint Mark, To those that do collect the PM's , Hold On Tight.....So, Let the Collector's collect as they Please..... Looks like the PM's will bring More collector's to the Hobby Too....

Uh Oh yesterday my debit acct with no explanation increased by $110 and change. Figured I'm outta luck waited for credit to post this am with "usmintgov credit" it didnt show and balance still +110 checked my mint account and order still active UM# as backorder? My thoughts are some software loop somethings not jiving no message from mint no order status change. Plan B sit back wait see if on July 29 - Aug 8th I'm charged again for coin. Home remedy is I will get one or I wont at the U.S. Mints leisure.
