About two years ago I started video recording package openings with my cell phone. I lean the phone on wall next to table and reverse the lens. I have evidence if something is missing or broken. I've only used a video once when a security camera arrived broken, plastic housing cracked. I sent the company the short clip of me opening the box. The camera company promptly exchanged it, no charge. I don't know how ebay or a seller would respond with video evidence.

Videos can be edited, spliced to look like something happened but didn't, usually you can see cut/pasting though. I'd rather have them question the validity of a video than have nothing to show there's a problem.

If you sell on ebay, please add a little extra tape to the package.

Have you any idea how expensive a bit of tape is?

Anyway, once in a while I'll get a package with so much packing tape on it I have to fight with it for minutes to get it open and sometimes I have to use a blade to open it up - talke about over kill (but I'd rather have to fight a package open than to find it already empty..

Sorry for your loss on that nice coin

Care to share the seller so I can avoid him/her?

What a bummer. I've had no problems with ebay items. Even from another country. I have noticed that some reputable sellers will (kind of) label the items as something other than what was in the package when coming from other countries.
PS, I save the packages because they sometimes have cool stamps.

This is terrible to hear. I hope you are able to get something from the PO.

The seller deserves a very harsh negative. They at least should have worked something out with you.

Step 1. File a SNAD complaint (Significantly Not As Described) on ebay and do this ASAP if not already done. An ethical seller would file a postal insurance claim to recoup their losses and then refund the seller for the full amount paid.

If that doesn't work,

Step 2. Initiate chargeback process on your method of payment (PayPal or bank card) to stop and reverse payment because you did not receive the item you purchased. This will most likely be decided in your favor since the seller (merchant) is required to prove that you took physical possession of the item in question and cannot do so.

PS. Insurance is 100% the seller's responsibility and it is never the buyer's responsibility, because insurance exists to protect the seller. If it was sent Priority Mail, that includes a certain amount of insurance at no additional cost to the seller.

I've been buying and selling on ebay since 1997 and 99% of my transactions have been great but there's always that 1% that go sideways.

Dearborn the ebay seller is "Zypies", they sell tons of coins and have 100% rating. I now understand the rating system on ebay is a joke. I posted negative feedback for this seller and ebay said I broke feedback rules thus my negative feedback does not count. Due to mentioning that a "case" was opened on this lost item. Now I know the ebay posting rules really well. I did appeal to ebay and lost again. ebay wanted a police report filled out with a bunch of hoops for the police station to jump though. The police laughed at eBays request and said it's a postal matter, deal with them.

The dealer was less than helpful during this whole process, no communications what so ever. While ebay is a nice place to see a lot of coin product, I think I will be slowing down my purchases from them. I will be searching out shops directly online and go that route. ebay was not helpful on this matter, I can take my chances else where.

This case is officially closed.

You keep looking for someone to blame. If you want to blame someone blame your wife. She picked up the mailer and did not bring it to the PO's attention. Once she walked out the door all bets are off, Why in the world would you expect
ebay or the seller to act differently. All the proof they have is that the item is shown as delivered. End of story
It doesn't matter if you shop on ebay or elsewhere online the results will be the same if you or your wife walk out of the PO with an empty mailer.
