I think the Serbian dinar is supposed to be on par with a Venetian grosso?

Good point, it's pretty bulky at 1.7 g. @era can tell us for sure, but I'm thinking it was out of scope for this thread.

This one is from Italy (Brindisi). It was issued under the authority of Frederico II of Sicily in 1247 AD.

I was pretty sure you had at least another one or two Sicilian coins in the wings.

I thought I had played my last Lorraine coin, but remembered I have this very obscure denier parisis from the Duchy of Bar, which is just west of the Duchy of Lorraine, and was eventually absorbed by it:

It was struck in the reign of Duke Robert II (1354-1411). While Robert lived a long life for his time, his sons were not so lucky. Two predeceased him at the Battle of Nicopolis, a crusade action of 1396. His fifth eldest son succeeded him as Duke in 1411, but died on the French side at Agincourt (1415), along with a younger brother, whereupon the 4th eldest, Louis, who was already Bishop of Verdun took the title of Duke of Bar as well. It was he who negotiated the peaceful merger (by marriage) into the Duchy of Lorraine..

Obscure indeed @tdz--I haven't seen that design before!

My next coin is much more common I think--a mid-13th Century Denaro of the Italian City State of Siena. Other than an unfortunate edge chip, it really pops!

I'll say! Cool coin on so many levels!
I'm guessing those old letterforms might attract some collectors , then there is the fact that the S is backwards, the N looks like an H, and that there is no punctuation in the obverse legend to tell you "which way is up."
We're recently seen a big F (Ferrara), now a big S (Siena); I wonder how many other Italian city-states used that model? I know there are Modena denari with a gothic m, but I'm sure there must be more.

I've exhausted my meager supply of 14th c. types (before spence runs through his seemingly inexhautable supply from the 13th!), and am now into the 15th with this Polish denier from the reign of Ladislaus III (1434-1444) who was concurrently king of Hungary (1440-1444) as Ulaszlo I.

Wonderful coins! If I should pick just two (and that's not easy), that denier from Bar looks very interesting, and so does the Siena denaro.

I do mention Serbian dinara as an example of admissible coins in the rules, so yes, they are ok! Even though you are right, tdziemia, they are more like grossi. But English pennies also contained considerably more silver than the continental deniers of the time, so it is more what they are called than what they contain.

seemingly inexhaustible supply

I was thinking about this a bit while out riding today. As it turns out, the rules for this thread just happen to be particularly well-aligned with my collection (small, medieval silver coins) and my current collecting interest. I'm about half done with my 13th Century box...

Also, thx for the clarification on that Serbian Dinar @era. I'm pretty sure that I'll have a few others to post at some point.

Here is a uniface, so-called "Lindwurm-Pfennig" from Freiburg I'm Breisgau. It was struck in the last half of the 13th Century and this is the first time that I've posted it on CCF.
