CAPS Albums - Methods For Removing Capsules From Pages?

When I used to re-grease up my front wheel bearings, I would use 2 large diameter sockets one larger that the bearing and one just about the same size of the outer diameter of the bearing itself. I would then gently tap the smaller socket to knock out the bearing and it drops into the larger one. (The larger one just gave it a bit ov height in order for the bearing to move down.

You can probably use the same technique here. (I don't use CAPS albums, so I don't know if it would work or not here.)

I don't use the caps pages, and didn't know of the obstacle on the one side. I thought that the holding pages were an empty hole with maybe a small ridge to keep it from falling out the back side..

Also, I may just bite the bullet -- order new blank pages and trash the old ones (which will likely get damaged as I remove the capsules). Problem with that is I would have done that with my order from a couple weeks ago to save shipping. Oh well! It's just money, right?

To be fair, I've had the albums for something like 8 years now and this is the first time I've run into the issue. Unless you are frequently upgrading coins or when you need to order update pages (which is my situation), this shouldn't be a big deal. I don't plan to upgrade/replace any ASEs once I purchase, so this will be a rare occurrence for me.

For those considering CAPs albums; I recommend them. They're a great-looking, high-quality storage option but they do have two drawbacks 1) This issue of removing capsules once seated, and 2) size, as has been mentioned in other topics. They're very big.



Thanks! I was able to wrestle one out with thumb pressure with minimal damage to the holder. I guess I'll just go that route and then order some new blank pages when it's time to update/add pages for the 2023, 2024, 2025+ coins.

Several years ago, I had the same issue with removing capsules. Somewhere on this website, I read about "GoStak." A section is placed under the capsule that is to be removed for support. Then using your fingers, push the capsule out. No damage to the album page. I have two albums (1800's TYPE SET and 1900's & 2000's TYPE SET) using CAPS, and I recommend them. I have six 25mm CAPS binders and each has 6 pages which I reorganize frequently

If I need to move one or two coins I use my thumb

But if I'm moving a bunch of coins around I use a Real Avid Smart Bench Block that is an AR-15 building tool






It's about 4" wide and the cavity is ¾" deep

I place a clean towel over the block, depress it with my hand so I can see where to put the coin

Then I center it over the cavity and a simple push will pop it out



Now, this tool isn't cheap, they are about $30 on Amazon but I originally bought it to build ARs

It is has a rubber outer skin and the edges are about ¼" wide so there is plenty of support for the page

As I said, I reorganize my coins all the time and I never crease the pages nor do they seem to get "loose"
