I've cracked out and detailed an ANACS VF-25 1864 over 64 using acetone dip and a Qtip dipped in acetone along with a softened rose thorn. Got all the gunk and grime out dipped it again and behold every light movement of Qtip and rose thorn were etched into that coin. I don't do that anymore my experience may not be as radical as OP's but it was a $200 lesson and its stuck! Breaking out 1k coin is your prerogative and sometimes works...sometimes but my thoughts are you learned a great deal about the risks. Coin does not look the same to me either? If your trying to fake out the forum bad way to start out, if I'm wrong please excuse and welcome to forum. Lots of strong opinions on this forum stick around and enjoy the fire hose information feed not found anywhere else.

It sounds like the OP is just interested in how to quickly tone cleaned coins to hide hairlines. The whole fake crack out story may have just been an attempt to buy sympathy and increase the chance of getting an answer from someone who felt bad for them.

That coin was not a candidate for dipping, it did look better before. This is a learning experience. 3 seconds in full strength e-z-est is too long, especially on a lightly toned piece. It may have already been netted to 62 for a light cleaning and second skin that developed over the last few decades.
Don't beat yourself up. Learn.

No use in comparing before and after pics, since they are definitely different coins. As @panzaldi and @Slider23 showed, the marks near the mouth on the PCGS coin are gone, and the date position is slightly different. Perhaps the OP did crack out and dip the PCGS coin, but the post-dip photo isn't the right one. A photo of the reverse would help.

I'm not going to jump on the OP for the post quite yet. it could have been an honest mistake. I recently made a post to show what verdicare did to my 09Svdb which allowed it to show marks on the coin that were not easily seen before I soaked it. the problem was I grabbed the photo of my 09S to compare against it. CCF caught it pretty quick. was this on purpose or just a mistake by the OP? only he can tell us if he has another 1890 morgan from maybe a different mint as we don't have a reverse photo and he just grabbed the wrong coin

I agree, let's not tar and feather him just yet.

i don't think scomer has been checking their thread or refuses to comment on it. maybe since he/she only has 3 posts that don't know that it was moved to this forum.

So that was the wrong coin, my mistake I have 2 of them. This is the true view of this coin. The certification number is off by one. Honest mistake all. Do you think this will still grade ms62? 49427378 instead of the 49427377 I posted. You guys are good. But here is the update with the correct true view

Can you see the gauge by the nose?
Sorry for the mistake. Is it possible they saw this before and will still net grade it ms62? I or am I not gonna have the same luck. I should have asked you all before dipping it.
This guy at a show told me to dip everything for a few seconds before submitting. Said he had done this for 20 years. That's why I did it. Dang I should have had pcgs do the restoration. I thought it was a no brainer, never knew toning hid this much.
Maybe they saw the hairlines because they are acceptable in ms62 and below grades. Idk, I already sent it in. I'm gonna cry if it gets a au58

Ok here is the correct coin before e z est removal and after. I did make a mistake is posting the wrong certification number, but if you would have looked at the number on the cracked case you would have found this exact coin in true view. I made a mistake, and so did everyone else who missed that. My apologies. Please review this side by side and conform same coin.
