Hi There.
Which is better for long-term storage of inexpensive modern coins -- a Dansco coin album or individual 2 x 2 cardboard flips with mylar film?
I'm most concerned about toning and discoloring. I could use air tites, but I think they are too expensive for the modern coins I have.
Thank you.

My personal default is Dansco. Good quality 2x2s work well also.
What's really important is where the Dansco and/or 2x2s are stored.

yep, what jbuck said. If you have other Dansco albums, then the 7000 series Dansco album and the 2x2 holders are the way to go (I have) may be sold out at wizards supply, but ebay has a few: ebay item number: 374122398109

Thanks to all for your replies.
I guess my real question is the following:
If everything else is equal (like temperature, humidity, sunlight, smoke, etc.), are Dansco albums or 2 x 2 cardboard flips better for protecting coins from toning, deterioration, etc.?
Maybe they are both the same. I always had the impression that cardboard, like that found in Dansco albums, would cause toning. But then again, air seeping in through 2 x 2 cardboard flips could cause the same damage....
Right now, I have some coins in Dansco albums, but I prefer 2 x 2 cardboard flips. I place the flips in BCW sheets with 20 pockets. I'm not sure if this is wise.... Thoughts?

Quote: Dansco albums or 2 x 2 cardboard flips better for protecting coins from toning, deterioration, etc.? As my grandfather would say, "six in one hand, half dozen in the other." The choice is yours, use whatever you prefer. Protection is the same and as mentioned above, dependent on storage location (low humidity, stable temperature). For what it is worth, my oldest Dansco albums are approaching 40 years of age. I have no complaints.

..And I think that if you pair up the 7000 Dansco album with a slipcase, you can maximize the protection. I do know that Dansco only uses materials that don't 'leak' (for lack of a better word) toxic fumes or gasses that can harm coins.

Wow. Dansco had it all figured out from the get-go. I need to get an album for my 2x2s now.

Thank you to all who mentioned the Dansco 2x2 holders. I looked at this 7000 album online. It's similar to what I have for many of my 2x2s. I place the 2x2s in 20-pocket BCW sheets, which in turn, are placed in 3-ring binders. I'm not sure what the advantage is of buying the Dansco 7000 album, except that maybe, the album provides better protection from air/the environment?

It will provide better protection with a slipcase. AND if you have Dansco albums of other coins - it matches in with them.

Another bonus Dansco provides is that the 2x2 pages are held securely by the entire spine of the album so there is no tearing of the holes from the weight and very minimal sagging of the pages too.

I will add that there is less sagging with 12 coins per page instead of 20.

The Dansco 2x2 pages are made of vinyl. Isn't that bad?
