Question About The Letters In The Reverse Field Of Roman Coins.

MetDet71 Pillar of the Community United Kingdom 1563 Posts	Posted 07/14/2024 08:05 am I was wondering if there is a good site that gives reference to the letter/symbols that are found on Roman coins, The Constantine era especially. Take the coin I have pictured here, where would I find out the meaning of the two letters please? I know the legends so don't need help with identification. I knew what the letters are, I just needed a reference as to what letters meant which officina. Thank you So the S-T on the coin I have is second-third officina? Victor Pillar of the Community United States 901 Posts	Posted 07/14/2024 10:32 am This coin from London does not have an officina because there was only one workshop in London. In the exergue is PLN. The LN part is London while the P is either "percussum" which would translate as "struck in London" or "pecunia" meaning "money of London". For the letters in the field, these are probably abbreviations of popular phrases of the day; in this case S-F is "Saeculi Felicitas"-- Age of Good Fortune. Report this Post to the Staff
