Ooh! I like that. Looks like it's carved in wood.
Nice details with some flat spots. Looks like it's been hit rather than worn. A tough one to grade.

Hey bobo, did you clean that pfenning? I have the same coin and can not scan or photograph it. It is so dark it is even hard to read under a glass. It is in the same condition as yours, VF. But have not been able to post it for comments.

Thanks! I think this is original brown color. Coin is not cleaned. To do clean it with preparation for copper or not

I'd say it's high VF. And don't clean it, these pieces often have such dark-brown to black toning, and a cleaned one would really stand out

Thanks bobo. I was wondering about that. I don't want to clean mine, but it is graded so low because you can hardly make out the letters. It is a very subdue black. It is as a black hole, it does not reflect light so it is hard to make out the features. Even though by touch all is sharp and clean.

Yea I see. I have coins that are black and shinny. and like yours. But this one I have is so subdue black that it absorbs the light. It is the only coin I have ever seen like this. It is not crusted or dirty, only some change in age and this. I guess it is some type of oxidation?
