Hey folks, looking for some info here on the Canadian cardboard issued sets.

The 1953 set was consider a BU strike?

1954-1960 were considered PL strikes?

Were there 3 or 4-varieties of the cardboard cards for 1960?

I welcome someone to add the mintages of all cardboard issued BU/PL sets as well as the varieties for the noted years above.

Thanks for the knowledge and help here folks.

Here is a previous thread regarding the 1960 cardboard holders that answers your question.

As to the 1953 set being BU (as opposed to PL) - I think you are correct but I don't really know for sure. I have not seen one in a Mint holder.

Thanks for welcomes folks.

Joewobblie, thanks for the links.

Does someone here have a 1953 set in its original cardboard and cellophane that they can post and compare to a 54-60 set strike?

Is there someone on this site that can tell us why the 1953 set isn't listed in the Charlton Catalogue? It only lists from 54-60 for these particular sets? Or am I missing it in another section of the catalogue?

Thanks for the help folks

Yes, the 1953 sets could be all PL, all specimen, all circulation strikes, or a mix of all three.

Here's one that sold recently on ebay; looks just the same as the 1954 and on sets:

Can people tell me more about the pre-1953 BU/PL sets that were released or given as gifts from the RCM in single cellophane packets as sets all stapled together? They had all denominations from the penny to dollar. Thanks Darcy

There were some 1951, 1952, and 1953 sets sold recently in the TCNC RCNA Auction that were in individual cellophane packets:

Thanks Johnnysprawl, I seen them.

I remember seeing these items for sale years ago.

There's lots of well versed coin collectors/dealers that are aware of these sets, I'd like to know more about them...

Send me a PM if you'd like to chat on the side.

Thanks folks.

I was considering bidding on them, but I had never seen them in individual cellophane wrappers like that so was unsure of their authenticity.

Not to mention that they looked like circulation strikes in other lot photos.
