I've recently started looking at acquiring some paper currency. I've come across a few items in this companies holders. Does this company have a good reputation, do their notes trade at values in line with PMG or PCGS, or are they considered sub-tier?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Adam

Legacy Grading is considered a lower tier grading company.

I agree with Steve, the grades maybe accurate but they aren't given the value of PMG or PCGS.

I agree with all of the above. Lord knows, I want to be easy-going on all TPG's (cause it can't be easy assessing a note's condition) but I've seen some crazy iffy certifications with Legacy. Many more questionable # than with the new PCGS & PMG holders. On top of that, they've made huge inroads within the Canadian scene which has only been disappointing. Many Bank of Canada & Canadian Chartered notes have been certified & I avoid them no matter how much I might like to buy a particular note. Some of the grades are likely spot on but I've seen too many dodgy looking notes with their "Q" (original) designation which look processed to me & this oversight doesn't sit well, so I've come to dismiss most of their grades & examine each note carefully (assess it myself) & usually come up short (compared to their assessment). When I have to do this kind of homework (which I've come to do with any TPG note but at least find consistency with the others) & the dubious high 67 or 68 & having as many 2nd thoughts- it just ends up being a turn off (& I'm not going to pay a premium for a # I think is entirely too liberal).

Greetings Adam,
Previously, when I was more actively engaged in collecting, I frequently utilized a grading service called PCGS. When I wished to have paper currency graded, I submitted it to PCGS Currency. As a result, I possess a substantial collection of bills housed in PCGS Currency holders.
In the wake of a submission to PCGS Currency, I learned that their contract with PCGS was ending and would not be renewed. PCGS would now grade paper money under a new name. PCGS would, however, fully back existing PCGS Currency product, and soon PCGS will resume grading currency under a different banner. I also learned that the former PCGS Currency experts planned to independently regroup as "LEGACY."
Pressed for time, I chose to have my submission returned in LEGACY folders with a LEGACY grade. I posit, the LEGACY experts' (the erstwhile PCGS Currency experts') work compared very favorably to my PCGS Currency submissions.
Alas, I will be sending my next submission to PCG$. Still, it would be fun to sit with some drinks alongside your other three respondents to see if we can figure out what's wrong with us. What renders us this manipulable?

The TPG's are in the business to make money. They process coins and paper money very quickly; 3 graders typically see each numismatic item and then the item is confirmed with a senior grader.
I think they do the best that they can. TPG graders see thousands of notes, coins and I believe are honestly doing a great job at grading. Yes, we collectors grade the item, we scrutinize each and perhaps are more critical than the TPG's as we have the time to nitpick.
The buyer of our graded numismatic items has the final say in whether they want to spend the money. If it doesn't look right regardless of the TPG than they don't buy at that price, but price always seems to determine if there is a sale.
We have 3 choices for getting paper money graded. PMG, Legacy and the new PCGS.
I have sent in 20+ Canadian notes to BCS. I think they are tough graders and if you send them in during their July/August sale, they are so cheap! Especially if your spending USA dollars with the exchange.
I admit, I have sent notes to BCS and then removed notes and sent to PMG as they are more lenient on grading and I benefited from this.
I talked to many a dealer that have cracked open coins and resubmitted them until they get the grade that they want.
We do these things to increase the values of our collection.
So buy the coin/note not the holder is what any good dealer will tell you.
