Quote: They are finally 'Oscar Mike'! I had to look that up, yes they are! My dad, as I've mentioned, was in the Corp in Korea during the fighting, but I don't remember him using jargon, with one exception: "SOS", as in the food. He liked it! We had it fairly often, it was easy enough to make. The first "S", if I remember, was almost like stroganoff, burger and like cream of mushroom? No noodles. I liked it too. As far as my Marine privy ASE, the PO has it and the tracking number is doing tracking number things. They are saying Monday delivery.

Quote: "SOS", as in the food. He liked it! We had it fairly often, it was easy enough to make... So did we. My parents made it a lot and I recall we made it in Boy Scouts more than once. I recall, just homemade gravy and chipped beef served on white toast. Using hamburger and cream of mushroom soup sounds like the "uppity" version!

Quote: Using hamburger and cream of mushroom soup sounds like the "uppity" version! Did Boy Scouts call it SOS? Jogging my memory now. My grandparents raised beef cattle and would can their own beef. I am thinking now that that may have been the beef we used. We'd have some of that around usually. They also canned mushrooms, they had those around their backwoods farm. They grew some crops, but a little of their land was rugged and not tillable (southwest Wisconsin in the Driftless area). So granny and grampa were sort of subsistence farmers. Never had running water. Didn't have a phone until the phone line was finally run near enough to them to be connected, 1970s sometime.
