Hey Marc, I have been using the prizm 3 for a couple of years and it has been a good detector for me. It is the main detector I use. I did upgrade the coil to the 950 from the stock coil. Made a world of difference. I have had not one problem with it and I have put some hours on it. I guess it comes down to what you are going to use it for. I use mine mainly for coinshooting. It detects down to about six inches on average depending on the soil. I have found some stuff deeper but in softer soil. A lot of clay around here. It runs on 2 9 volt batteries. I have found that only one battery goes dead after about 16 to 20 hours. I just move the remaining battery in place of the dead one and put the new one in place of the remaining battery. Doesn't get costly on the batteries at least for me. As for used prices I haven't a clue as to what a good price would be. Guess it would depend on the shape it's in. I it's a good detector in my opinion. Hope this helps you somewhat. Not trying to sway you away from the Whites but you might want to look at the Garret Ace 250 I think it is called. It is used by some on here and is said to be a good detector also.

I have an ACE 250 and I love it. I have no trouble getting to depths of 12-14 inches with it. Only draw back to the unit is that it will tell me that a pull tab is a quarter, but as the well seasoned detectorist will tell you, dig every find.
