I've been happily whatsapping my photos to my tablet so I can edit them on a bigger screen for a while now and they've been coming back to my iPhone at a very useful 200 or so kb. I now discover that since the app "upgraded" itself they've been coming back at half that size. Does anyone know a way round this situation? I'd like to post the best quality pics I can (scratched close-up lens permitting - they're sending me a new one)...

Did they change the image format? .webp (I hesitate to call it "new") creates smaller files.

Aha! Gone into WhatsApp settings and discovered there's a "basic" and an "hd" choice of image quality, so next time I edit a pic on my tablet I'll send it in "hd" and see what happens...

Thanks! That 20p was straight out of my pocket so is actually pretty battered. Relatively lifelike pic. Might have sussed it... Now... when's that new phonescope arriving...

I'll play around with the zoom settings on the phone a bit more and see what I can achieve. Isn't it annoying that if you live where the signal isn't very good it might take a minute or two to WhatsApp from the device you're holding to the one on the table in front of you. I've seen people wagging their phones at each other not realising that the poor little message has got to go to a mast and then all the way to a satellite and back...
