What would you suggest the designation be? Is it ms 67 or 68?

It's a proof, but it's been impaired. The fingerprints and scratches on the reverse is unfortunate.

What do you mean by impaired? Most likely the scratches would be contact and handling by some family before me not being responsible with the care of it.

A proof coin that is broken out of the case is considered "impaired" when it gets circulated. Value of a pristine 1962 proof nickel is $1-2 with free shipping. Impaired is essentially 5¢ plus the fun of finding it in circulation.

that this is a proof coin that shows signs of circulation or handling. Unfortunately, that reduces the value to near face.
