My father noted that this was Trajan 98-117 AD. Is that correct? The coin is approx 27mm diameter and weighs approx 11g. Many thanks.

I am sorry to inform you that this looks like a modern cast replica. The details are soft and mushy.

I have also found a match one a fakes database. Same flan shape and wear pattern confirming the cast fake.

Thanks. The coin was purchased in the 1980s so if it is a reproduction it's not a recent one. I actually overlayed the reproduction image over the coin that I have and there are clear differences. The S and C are different shapes for example. If it wasn't a reproduction what would it be? Is it Trajan? Thanks.

Is there a seam on the edge? that would also show it to be a cast copy.

There doesn't appear to be a seem on the side at all. Not easy to photograph but I've made an attempt:
