Any ideas about this? Just wondering if the image is Masonic. The token is just under an inch wide. There's also a slightly larger copper version. Both are extremely rare and I'm privileged to have this pic.

I do not believe it is Masonic, so I have split your reply its own topic for the proper attention.

Beats me. I can certainly see how you might think it's Masonic!

The Hamsa Hand is a universal sign of protection, power and strength that dates back to ancient Mesopotamia. Known as the Hand of Fatima in Islam and Hand of Miriam in Judaism, it's believed to protect against against the evil eye and and all negative energies.

With the torse at the wrist it made me think of a livery button. I found a button with a similar image. When I looked it up in a heraldry reference I found one family it is connected to is the Ridge family. When I looked up the crest for the Ridge family this site had this crest - https://www.myfamilysilver.com/page...3&name=Ridge

Really nice detective work @brum! Just in case that link ever gets broken, here is the reference book: Fairbairn's Book of Crests, 1905 ed.

It's a "Venables Shilling". Very rare. The weight, just over 3 grams, makes me think it's an entry token or communion token of some sort, hence my thinking it could be Masonic. Here's the other side. Sorry, no edge pic at the moment.

This is the only edge pic I'm likely to get so sorry about the quality. Hope it helps with ID. There was a Thomas Venables in Cheshire in the 17th century. The rest is a mystery to me. There's a pic of a copper one which I'll see if I can borrow...

Right then. Good luck. Apparently this is 1.2 inches across and weighs a mere 3.25 grams. Pretty flimsy! It may say Shrewsbury round the edge but there is no edge-pic available. Any guesses?

There was apparently a Thomas Venables in Birmingham who was involved with Conder token production. There's some info about him in this article by Richard Doty "Matthew Boulton's Token" in The Conder Token Collectors Journal. https://archive.org/details/CTCJour...p?q=venables
