I can't remember what this error is called on this 2021 D penny buy I know as soon as I see it I will feel dumb lol I thought part of it was just PMD but then I realized that couple of the cuts or grooves actually go under the letters P and U

EPU is incuse on these coins, correct? I think it's just a scratch.

Lay a comb on a paper, draw a line across comb with pencil. The pencil mark will not mark the paper because it is in a valley, just like the letters are on the shield of penny.

Circulation hit? Really?!?! The scratch or whatever is UNDER the U..... I have no way of getting better pics! Not sure why I bother.... sorry I really appreciate the help...

Sorry you did not understand my example of the comb. My lack of explaining needs working on. But the point I was making is the pencil line is on the top of the comb, not the paper. Just pretend the line on comb is a scratch, it will look like the line has skipped over the paper, just like the scratch on your coin skipped over the letters not under them. I do hope the New Year will be better for you.

Your coin isn't scratched. The die has the scratches/ marks.
