I would also suggest getting a hard copy catalogue. Take a look at one of these from your local library reference section (your college may have a copy). These can be purchased 2nd hand too (a few years old) & usually the relevant info doesn't change much (if you're on a budget). I found my first few copies helped me understand grades, tougher dates/varieties & even the pricing tables better. I can't imagine trying to learn all of the info I've picked up from my catalogues from any online source since they usually lack a lot of nitty-gritty background info & so much collector context that many serious collectors appreciate.
Next, you might want to upgrade your supplies, flips, binders, etc. When I started out I often put my collection in sub-standard holders so I replaced almost everything with better quality holders/binders.
The last thing I would suggest (& probably the toughest part to collecting) is just to keep consistently active. Drop into sites like CCF (& other active forums that keep you interested) on a regular bases so you can keep engaged.
