I got this medallion from my grandpa about 5 years ago. I was wondering what this medallion is and where it was minted. On the back of the card, it says "The Royal Collection". But due to my bad searching skills, I can't find anything about the royal collection, I can only find info about an art collection. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

It is a privately minted medal, sold as a souvenir. "The Royal Collection" would be what is now known as the Royal Collection Trust, which is authorized to sell officially sanctioned Royal Family souvenirs, with the profits going to royally sponsored charities. I do not know where they were made, but I suspect not at The Royal Mint - The Royal Mint usually boldly emblazons its name on their products.

There are several of these medals for sale on ebay - just search for "Buckingham Palace 1999" and you should find them. Prices being asked for range from AU$49 to GB£69; noting that these are asking prices, not what people are actually selling these for. I suspect it would not have been that expensive at the time; here's the 2024 medal currently being sold by the Royal Collection Trust, at a cost of 3 British pounds.
