Things have certainly changed. This $20 has been sitting in my collection since I bought it when I was a kid (currently 69). Mowed a lot of lawns one summer to save up the money. Wish I had been able to buy more.   |

Dealers here are very happy importing and selling bullion coins. Been noticing lots of mint quality indian eagles. Uncommon here so they must be coming from another european country. Some banks are still emptying vaults? Or perhaps they are now crossing the Atlantic to Europe?
They are selling at bullion price. But I do not think it is to collectors.

I'm not into graded coins but In the past year and a half I have picked up several raw pre 33 pieces at very close to spot prices. I had to go a bit over that last week for my last purchase. My LCS had an 1852 $1.00 liberty for what I thought was a great price so I had to bite the bullet. I never thought I'd add that one to my collection because I don't like paying that much over spot but I had just cashed in 1000 dollars worth of 2 dollar bills and dollar coins so I guess it was meant to be. I need a $10 Indian and a St. Gaudens and then I will have to decide if I want to go after the $3.00 one.

I sold all mine a few weeks ago to fund an 1864 w/L proof Indian Head cent. Bought it all between 1200 and 1400, I did pretty well on both sides of this transaction. I'm hanging on to my silver for a while. |

I stopped buying after gold went over $3,000. I own 20 U.S. gold coins totaling almost 13 troy ounces of pure gold so that's enough and all I can realistically afford.

Like many other people, I can't afford to purchase gold at $3400 an ounce. I'm often browsing ebay looking for deals. Most of my gold purchases have been modern commemoratives which can be found at or below melt at times. A week or so ago I got a 3 piece 1986 Statue of Liberty set for $210. It's rare to get them that cheap but I have done even better... |

I still buy gold commemoratives as they're released which means my bank account is going to take a hit when Superman is released in July, and then the American Liberty in August. Batman and Wonder Woman subsequently. Is there a release date for Batman and Wonder Woman. By the way, as much as I enjoyed those comic characters when I was a kid, I think commemorating them is dumb.
