Here's a pair you don't see everyday, the 1994 World Cup USA Silver Dollar and Copper-Nickel (CuNi) Clad Half Dollar each mounted in a bezel attached to a red, white and blue ribbon.

The FIFA World Cup soccer tournament was held in the United States (US) for the first time in 1994; Brazil defeated Italy in the final match on penalty kicks 3 to 2 to win the trophy. To mark the US' hosting of the tournament, a set of US commemorative coins was sponsored by World Cup USA 1994, Inc.- the tournament's organizing committee - and issued by the US Mint. The set included a $5.00 Gold Half Eagle, a Silver Dollar and a CuNi Clad half-dollar; the coins were available in Proof and Uncirculated finishes.

As part of its large number of packaging options for the 1994 World Cup USA commemorative coin program, the US Mint sold a limited number of the Uncirculated Silver Dollars and Uncirculated Copper-Nickel (CuNi) Clad Half Dollars encased in a bezel with an attached ribbon - a symbolic nod to the medals awarded to participating athletes.

The Mint sold 1,542 of the CuNi Clad Half Dollar "Victory Ribbon" option, and 751 of the Silver Dollar version; no Gold Half Eagle "Victory Ribbon" option was offered.

An interesting aspect of the bezel on each coin is the fact its edge is reeded vs. smooth. IMO, it gives the package a bit more of a coin "feel" vs. a jewelry "feel."

That is an unusual and interesting was to present the medals. I'm impressed that this was an official US Mint product offering - usually such items are thought up by and managed by a 3rd party.
