I'm in the process of updating the photo inventory of my collection and found the following document from the National Archives to be very helpful regarding file names: https://records-express.blogs.archi...file-naming/
I'm a genealogist and my family's historian with thousands of scans of original family photos, letters and documents going back to 1839 and prior in a few cases.
I referred to the national archive and their recommended standards. Somewhere they have recommended file formats, resolutions, etc. for documents and photos as well. Their intent is for preservation over long periods to avoid any inpacts due changing digital systems in the future. Excellent resource and advice.
