@char, while there may have been a difference in the heat treatment of the feedstock at the mint, a more likely explanation for different coins being toned different colors is that they were exposed to different environmental/chemical conditions.

Nicely toned, in my opinion.

It's toned from environmental factors.

Coin looks uncirculated to high AU..IMO very difficult to make a judgement call about annealing/improper alloy mix error coins vs environmental toning from photos, does it show signs of cartwheel luster? Is color uniform over the complete coin surface? Where did you find it, in a bank roll with other 2024Ds ? My advice place it in a 2x2 holder and label as a possible error than visit a coin show and look for a slabbed example to compare your coin to. While I was coin roll hunting many years ago I questioned several quarters, finally bought an example ($31) in a ANACS holder MS-66, turned out 2 of the coins I had questioned looks just like my slabbed coin......Good luck on future finds

Edge photos can help determine these errors too. Can you do a side by side edge photo comparison of these two quarters?

When I get home from work, I will post some edge photos. To answer another question on here, I did not get it from a bankroll. But I did receive it from a cashier with multiple others of the same coin but the others were not the same tone. So I assume it did come from a bankroll.

I looks like a nicely toned quarter, from what is hard to tell.

Not sure of the cause but you can easily see horizontal "roller" lines on the obverse and reverse, shows best in the second, side by side pics. Nicely toned coin though, I like it.

Side by side is hard to get with the setup I have but I gave it a shot. The top coin is the one in question.

Tough to say one way or the other after those picts. IMO You can see some of the color blending on the clad part of the edge and I can't imagine environmental exposure on a new coin would cover the entire surface like this. I think its a minor annealing issue with little if any premium. It has a nice look to it though.
