I was looking at this penny and the lettering on E PLURIBUS UNUM looks like it is fat to me. Is this a double-die error? The rest of the lettering looks normal to me. I cannot find anything online about it. There is also something weird going on with the S mint mark. Any input would be appreciated!

Around the S mm appears to be split plating....shameful for a proof coin. Everything else seems normal to me.

here is one auctioned @ Great Collections.

I'm seeing what may be very slight thickness on your coin. The dots at EPU are almost perfectly round. There does appear to be a little "oval-ness" going on but I see no notching on any of the letters.

The full images seem to look normal.
Comparing your closeups to the images in the link, I can't really tell if all 1983 S proof coins had the round parts of the letters (P, R, & B) almost filled in or if it is part of some extra thickness.

Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.
