I have this forum to thank for knowing what I had in the item below. I'm not seeing the die crack or the dome dot though, but that may be because of wear and tear, which seems to be considerable. Or is it? There are a lot of issues with a lot of letters on this "coin" (look at that O of OF AMERICA) and I am wondering how common problems like these are on Henning nickels? Does it have something to do with the way they were made? Or is it simply wear and tear? Or both? As always, welcoming all comments and questions (except weight related ones since I had to send back my new - or so I thought - scale... maybe it was counterfeit too...).   Edited by jdsstrat

Nice one, jdsstrat! I had a 1944 Henning nickel similar to yours. As DoctorBurnzy points out, not all of them have all of the markers. Besides being overweight, they have a funny texture and just don't feel or look right in hand.

Yes indeed - this is a genuine 1944 Henning counterfeit.
Congratulations on the find.
That is indeed a strange statement to say. A genuine counterfeit. LOL.
Yours was actually circulated and shows the wear and damages expected for a coin in use for many years.
Very nice example.
