It is a lovely coin, in a holder, but I noticed its back is rotated about 10° anticlockwise. Usually large cents have coin alignment (180°). My question is: is this a variety or is this coin a fake (I hope it is not)? Thank you for your advice. I attach some pictures. Report this Post to the Staff

This is a very nice coin and I do not see it as a fake. Yes, some 1837 cents are known to have a rotated reverse. I'm not sure if the rotation increases the value as much as many listings on ebay claim. They are sellers and not buyers. There are 17 varieties in 1837 and 3 different heads so I had difficulty and am guessing that this is variety N-6 with obverse die 5 and reverse die E with Medium Letters, but am not sure. My diagnostics are obverse "L" of LIBERTY has no offset to the base and "IBER" are close together at their bases. Also reverse "T" of CENT has a broken pendant on the left side.
