American Numismatic Society - In the last decade, the substantial increase of metal detecting in Romania has led to the discovery of coin hoards from various historical periods. Cristian Gazdac (Babes-Bolyai University) will examine those coin hoards containing Roman imperial coins specifically, arguing that while everything may look like a Roman-period hoard, there are certain aspects that suggest a much later date for the hoard's hiding. Numismatists may thus need to reconsider older discoveries that were misinterpreted from a chronological point of view.
