I would think the surgical type gloves would be better since the cotton ones can leave fibers behind. I use nitrile gloves when cleaning the bathroom. They seem to attract less "crud" than the latex gloves I previously used. That difference may come down to quality versus material though. I do wear CLEAN white Cotton gloves when handling Proof type coins, or pristine coins that may hold a nice premium and then I only hold them by the edges too. Also I always handle my gloves over a soft clean white terry cloth towels, just in case I drop them to reduce the probability of any damage happening to them.(which does happen from time to time.)
