https://www.ebay.ca/itm/167545600636I am looking into buying this unopened roll of coins. But looking at the right hand side of the roll, it looks like there's a ring near the edge of the roll. Do you think this is evidence that someone has already rummaged the roll looking for the large bust, then put back together and recrimped with a crimping machine? Im not sure if I'm just seeing things and whether I should buy the roll

I would think that you are looking at a genuine unopened roll. It looks tight and it is hard to open the end of one of there without making a huge mess if it. However, back in those days, I think the bank would have got a bag of coins from the mint and then rolled them using their own equipment. So while it is probably a roll that was created in 1973, the coins in bank rolls were handled a lot more than later rolls that come straight from the RCM. I have spent a lot of time searching rolls of cents. In my experience, the red and white RCM rolls from the 2000s are the best coins out there as far as handling goes. The plastic wrapped RCM rolls from the 1980s are typically very baggy. The plastic rolls from the 1990s are better but often baggy. When you get to the 1960s and 1970s you are typically dealing with bank rolls like these and it is hit or miss in terms of quality. Some banks were very rough on coins, some weren't. I am not sure exactly when the mint started rolling its own coins.

Also, on your question of looking for a 1973 large bust roll, I would not waste your time looking. I have never heard of a roll being found. I as a paperboy found two coins in my change back in 1973. Both ended up in ICCS MS64 holders about 10 years ago. I still have one. I suspect that only a small number of business strike coins got released in 1973, probably in the Ottawa area where I lived. The chances of finding a roll full would be nil in my opinion because that would require a bagful to have been made. I don;t think that quantity exists or they would be found a lot more often.
This roll might have been opened to have a look, but even if it was opened, there may still be larges in there.

Adding a pic of the roll end so that folks can continue to learn after the auction comes down:

Looks fine to me. Not seeing any evidence of the roll being open and rerolled.

Personally I would not buy it. You would be paying $2.50 per coin which unless grade at a high MS, would not be worth it. There is nothing to say that they are all all uncirculated and the chance of finding a Large Bust are pretty slim.

The roll looks fine to me. Someone has bought it so it's gone at this point.

The buyer either got a nice deal or $10 worth of Canadian quarters.

It is truly un-searched, at least since it was rolled.
