Some of you may have noticed that I have not been as active on the Forum for the last month. I woke up one morning with a giant pain in the neck. Briefly, it's cervical radiculopathy (pinched nerves) with severe brachialgia (arm sciatica) and crushing muscle spasms. My left arm and hand have no strength and my hand and wrist burn - touching them is like being scalded. As such, it's very difficult to type. Doctor is bombarding me with medications that help with the symptoms but put me in a stupor. I sleep for 3 hours max several times a day then claw my way up out of the fog for a few.
I'm awaiting a call from the neurosurgeon.
Thank you in advance for the wishes but I may be slow in responding.

Oh no, must be really painful. I hope you get good pain relief, great treatment and a good surgeon if needed.

Because of car accident some years ago, not her fault, my wife has had three neck surgeries to relieve the pain, fused vertebrae, plate/screws and a cadaver bone implant. She's doing pretty good now. I've told her I'm a polygamist because of her cadaver bone, except we don't know if the bone came from a male or female LOL.

Please let us know how you're doing.

Sorry to hear about your health, Hondo. Your problems are far more important than our coin pastime. Praying that you get the help you need. It is very easy to get our priorities into the wrong order. Get well soon.

arm sciatica - something I never heard of. wow! sorry to hear about that, if it is anything like the lumbar sciatica I'm 'still' trying to recover from then the pain must be just incredible. (I would say unimaginable - but I can now visualize that kind of pain now)

Take it easy and get well. I have been told by my VA neuro doctors that this usually heals up on its own, but takes months.

Hi Hondo, sorry to hear of your issues, you & I have similar (but different) scenarios. All my problems are low back/leg (leg weakness, sciatica, L5-S1 herniation, degenerative disc disease, radiculopathy, stenosis, arthritis, etc.) I just consulted w/ a neurosurgeon regarding a total fusion, getting a CT scan today coincidentally. All that said, I can absolutely empathize w/ your pain & weakness. I've been on everything one can think of regarding meds & am currently taking Butrans 15mcgs p/h pain patch.

But recently, a friend offered me a grocery store-bought CBD drink containing 25mgs (no THC) nothing illegal. I was actually surprised how well it helped w/ my pain. It worked so well, I've started taking CBD/Hemp tinctures (no THC). Just throwing that out there because I know it stinks to be in chronic pain.

Yikes! I hope the neurosurgeon can help you with the pain and restore you to better health. You are certainly going through the fire right now.

If you are using a Windows computer, there is a voice-to-text option already installed. Right click on the Start button and select "settings" and then "accessibility." Under "Interaction," select "Speech" and it will allow you to start using this feature. I don't know if that would help, but it may be a useful option. It takes a while to train that command to recognize unusual words.

The flip side of that is text-to-voice to have it read back to you, and that's under "Settings" and "Accessibility" and "Vision," by selecting "Narrator."

Hang in there. We care. Please let us know how you are doing!

Thank you all for the well wishes and sentiments - I really appreciate it.

livingwater, my girlfriend is the same way - cadaver bone, screws, and pins. I tell her she's a zombie cyborg!

Dearborn, it's worse. I endured 10 years of sciatica and 3 ruptures before disc replacement surgery, and this is far more insidious - pain in the forearm and shoulder, along with a burning scalded sensation with occasional bee stings. Can't grasp with that hand or extend the arm.

fortcollins, thank you for the suggestion. But I don't have a microphone or camera attached to my computer because, well, paranoia.

Hondo — hope you get some relief soon! At least modern medicine can help a bit. Imagine how it was in the 19th century, trying all sorts of salves and herbal remedies while trying to keep up with your Large Cents and Seated Liberty collection.
