I guess it's just laziness. Buy the biggest size 2x2 you can and you can bung any coin in them.

I sometimes do that if I have run out of smaller sizes.

Me too, but I got tired of how it looked, so then I bought a sufficient quantity of each size that it doesn't happen anymore. Now the only time there is a mismatch in diameter with the 2x2 is when the coin is extra-thick. Those I like to use with over-sized windows.

Personally I'm not a fan of using 2x2s as a go-to way of storing coins. Too much effort, money and staples

Maybe I do so for my Australian commemoratives, but most things I throw either into boxes or bags labelled by country, denomination and/or era.

Others I throw into a big bag labelled "TO BE SORTED" ... which I ultimately will never get too doing as I've run out of bags but each to their own way I guess.

Guess if you are selling them then it doesn't matter - most people put them in albums or different 2x2's when they buy.

Guilty as charged.

A long, long, long time ago I got a really good deal for a bulk of half dollar sized 2x2s, so almost all my coins were in that size. Over the years they got replaced, but it was something that proved economical at the time.
