The 2nd video is equally impressive. The producers continue with the dialogue/podcast format (male collector's question & lady, certifier's answers). Graphics match the narrative perfectly.

What's the difference between Part 1 & 2 (you may be asking)?
-Well, Part 1 just lays out the basic Grade levels according to the 70 point Sheldon scale (UNC, AU, EF, VF, F, VG, G & Poor). The first video does it so comprehensively (leaves no stone unturned) I would still highly recommend checking it out.

Part 2 gets into the nitty gritty & elaborates further what may be some of the challengers a certifier would encounter (assessing each note). It covers the benefits of a TPG note, how certification preserves the note & then jumps into more about the individual grade levels (not covered in part 1).

Choice (mid & problem free) term is elaborated on (& in the different levels where Choice will be awarded). The various degrees of paper quality, types of folds, degree of discolouration (stains) & other issues are explored in depth. This is really well done in case you may have blurred the distinction between wrinkle & hard/soft fold, etc. How paper quality can be changed (& some of the processing which is too often carried out) are also covered. I really enjoyed their section on "doctoring."

They use some dandy examples too. Not just the Chief Five we see in video 1 but also a National Bank of Scotland 20 quid & a Singapore $5.00 from the Orchid series in Part 2.

Watch both videos if you have the time! Great stuff to review for collectors at any level! Two big thumbs up

-It was my pleasure @jbuck & @desiboyee as this 2 part guide is a production! I sure hope others will check it out (& give it the LIKE it deserves). I thought it deserves some support (& my hope is that others will check it out).

-When I saw the OP, I really wanted to view Part 1 immediately but was busy so it took me a few days to set the time aside (give it my full attention), check it out & then come up with a concise review. Part 1 inspired me to check out Part 2. I saw another video posted by Kcollector on grading which was good but not nearly as comprehensive. I just hope lack of time is all that has slowed down others from giving it their attention/feedback.

I did a short video on Grading notes over 6 years ago (before I started my Notaphilyc Culture site). Now, when I look at it, I realize how much detail I failed to cover. But over the years I've learned that Grading is an action & something which really takes a good deal of time to digest, practice & appreciate. Learning how to do it is almost like learning a 2nd language. While my video was a real glossed over treatment of a complex topic, at least I posted something to cover this critical aspect of our hobby.

@walk2dwater

Checked out your extensive website and YT channel. Great info for banknote collectors. Lots of resources and your Canadian note collection is impressive. Awesome to have seasoned collectors as yourself helping to expand the relatively small banknote collector community with your advise and expertise. Hope you will continue to make more Youtube content. I dont use forum much but this is where the real talent is. Thank you again!

I believe the thread below is a good reason to take a gander at your Banknote Grading Podcast @desiboyee:
https://en.numista.com/forum/topic165736.html

The OP shares a note he bought as "UNC with toning." This is an AU note.

Unlike the positive aspects of "toning" for coins, "toning" of a banknote is negative for paper money collectors. It is usually code for aging since paper has turned yellow (or darker). "UNC with toning" means the note is Almost UNC or could be described as AU (toning).

Toning is damage to the original paper.

However, the OP's note also shows rust or foxing (it is difficult to tell from the photos-which is the case). It would likely drop the note down yet another grade level in pricing. Most veteran collectors would consider it EF (EF+ pricing) but it may be described as AU with rust (etc).

Learning to grade is an essential skill & can save you considerable amount of money!
