I can't understand how one goes for 360K and another 550K, both being the same, or am I wrong?

I believe a little bit of FOMO set in. The later winners backed out sooner on the earlier coins knowing they had more chances.

I won #1006 and couldn't be happier. Quote: I can't understand how one goes for 360K and another 550K, both being the same, or am I wrong? I'll try to explain my bidding logic. Since there are seven similar (1002, 1004 & 1007 being less desirable to me due to clouding), nobody knew what these were going to go for. I didn't want to jump in on the first one only to have the others go for less. I and I think others wanted the first to establish the ballpark. From there bidders were willing to go deeper into the water as the value was firmed up. The winners of 1001 and 1003 took more risk and were rewarded. My gut tells me that future individual sales of this coin will be > $550K.

Quote: I'll try to explain my bidding logic... I see the same strategy at play with multiples on other auction sites, but what I'm bidding on doesn't usually have a comma in the price.

That's a lot of money for these coins.

so does that mean that the person who bought the coin for 360,000 has made a 190,000 dollar profit---

One doesn't make a profit until he sells. It's more correct to say that these coins are valued around $550K. The buyers of the coins that sold earlier can be confident in their investments if that's what's important to them. It's important to note that three of the seven have some clouding around the rims of the coins. The one that sold for $360K has a lot. In my opinion, it's not a proof 69 coin for this reason, but I don't understand how the grading services think sometimes. I think the clouding certainly impacted its selling price. However, a bit of clouding didn't seem to impact the value of the last one that sold. Perhaps as time goes on the ones with clouding will be a little less desirable. It really depends on how they look in person. My guess is now that the market has established itself, when one of these resells, buyers will be more confident, and it will go for more than $550K. Personally, I'm never going to sell mine because I'm 100% a collector. I do wonder if the other buyers were more collectors or investors.
