purchased in a bits and pieces lot, heavily encrusted , attachment points at back ? crudely cast , 25 mm x 30 mm longest points , 6.71 g , 1.5 to 2 mm thick , broadly similar to viking objects

Hmmm. It kinda reminds me of a pilgrimage badge. It seems that some of what we are seeing is the remnant of a pin for attachment to clothing.
