This is my coin, question... In the two posted pictures below, you will notice a change in the Population report number (PF66+), which went from 13 down to 12.. Is this: (A) Clerical Error or (B) Resubmission, New Rating given ?I know it's hard for us to know, but guess as to what you think happened.. Thanks !  |

Cracked out and upgraded

I6609, Very good, I hadn't thought of that. But if they graded it as real (PF66+), how would they know one of their already rated coins was fake? BStrauss3, I have never done this, but when a person "Cracks out" a coin from its holder, do they send the coin to get regraded along with the original PCGS holder? I wouldn't if I were looking for a better upgrade, I would think most people don't.. Thank you for your interesting comments, guys!

I'd go with a resubmission resulting in a different grade.

Crossover?
PCGS to CAC - someone sends to CAC for a crossover I would assume they would notify PCGS to pull the cert

I did it towards NGC some months back when I crossed a coin of mine to PCGS. Way I see it.. it's in the best interest of the collector to do it, as to keep the pop count lower. Lower pop means more valuable coin. |

OK, thank you joe_77, Yes, it would be the right thing to let the other 3rd party know that the slab has been updated...
Interesting, why did you switch to PCGS, having already been rated by NGC, and why not ANACS or CAC?

How does this work when a coin that is already rated is transferred to a different rating service?
Do you crack the old slab before sending it to the new service with the existing label?

Depends - if you are looking to get a details coin in a straight holder then it would be a crack and send in raw. On the other hand, if looking for a potential upgrade, or just a different TPG, then you send in the current slab with instructions. IE: Don't crack it out if you are not going to give same grade or better. |

Indeed, as DOCC stated, you can decide whether you crack and submit raw or crossover and send the slab. Costs are usually different too. Benefit of crossover is that if it doesn't upgrade or "straight cross (same grade)" you can say to keep it in the current holder.  |
