I'd like someone to explain/confirm why regular business strike examples of this series seem to be more vsluable than similar proofs.

Can you post some of the exact examples you are wondering about? Normally it's all about the demand for the coins.

I think that we need more information to be able to answer your question. Thx for clarifying!

On ebay there is a PCGS graded PR65 RB 1877 selling for $7950. At the same time there are 6 1877s graded less that are business strikes selling for more.

I would say that the survival rate of the proofs are far greater than the survival rate of the business strikes in high grade. (Supply and Demand)

You have to watch - "Selling price" and "Asking price" are totally different.

Think about it, proofs are carefully saved, while business strikes are spent and handled without care. The vast quantity of low grade 1877s show what they endured when placed into circulation.

There are many more high grade proofs available than business strikes. Therefore, the price for the proofs is less, and people often place a proof 1877 in their album over a business strike example.
