Hi folks,
This pillar dollar is coming up at a local auction. I've wanted one for a good while but have some concerns about authenticity as I don't know the type well- except that counterfeits are abundant. What are your thoughts?

There were bowls of these at market stalls in Mexico City ten years ago. I think about $5 US. I agree counterfeits are abundant.

Initially I don't like the looks of it. I would not purchase such a coin without in-hand inspection and a weight measurement.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Not something I would buy unless it was certified.
Too many small discrepancies for my liking and
it looks too perfect for a coin that age.

I have to defer to the experts here. Not something I would touch raw.
