Why didn't any of these grade higher? you only made 232 sets they should have all graded 69-70. I think the mint employees are not happy, since without making pennies they will be getting laid off! Haha

Would the owner of the cancelled dies be prohibited by law from using them to strike "souvenir" examples & selling them ?

Lot 232 of 232: Opens at $360K; Hammers at: $800,000
Total of all Lots: $16,764,500 ( or 1,676,450,000 cents ). That's enough pennies to fill 192 semi-trucks carrying 24 tons each
If you exclude Lots 1 & 232, the remaining 230 lots sold for an average of $68,541.30

The prices seemed to slowly rise starting about halfway through the auction. I was able to get a MS69/MS65/MS65 set at a decent price compared to where they ended up.

Quote: Bret, are you going to send them off to CAC? The only thing it might cost is some additional time, so I see no reason not to get them evaluated by CAC. I wouldn't do it if I had to pay for it.

Quote: Would the owner of the cancelled dies be prohibited by law from using them to strike "souvenir" examples & selling them ? I would think that since he purchased them legally they are his to do with as he pleases unless he was defrauding the Government or trying to pass restrikes off as Mint issued products. The Mint had an opportunity to make special sets for "the poor folk" but chose not to. Heck of a way to treat your customers that have supported you thru thick and thin the past many, many years. Whoeever plinked down 800k$ for #232 has the $ to pay a lawyer for the answers.
