Hi all,

I'm looking for recommendations for a decent USB microscope. With the impending demise of the penny, my local banks have stopped selling us boxes of pennies as they cannot get them themselves.

Dad and I are going to start looking through more nickels and half dollars now... the only issue is that his eyesight isn't good enough to read the dates. He'd tell the wheats by looking at the backs.

Hoping to get a good USB scope that's relatively easy to use, doesn't cost a ton of money, and can function by having someone place a coin under it and then have it be able to show the date of the coin on a computer screen.

Also, if this scope could be powerful enough to identify some errors, like RPMs and minor DDs, that would be very helpful too.

Any recs would be great! Thanks!

Lots of good recommendations in old threads here that you can find by using USB and MICROSCOPE as the keywords in the CCF search box for this subforum. To help you get started, here are links to a couple of those threads:

If low cost is foremost, then I'll not be much help.
I've tried a number of cheaper products before I settled on the Dino-Lite software and different scopes all having assorted features making for the best results in my modeling, project work and coin hobbies.

I anticipate delivery tomorrow of a Tomlov Autofocus 4K Digital Microscope: 8" TM4K-AF Flex Arm HDMI
I've been using a different Tomlov (DM402 Pro 10.1" 2K) for over three years. Same brand, but an upgrade.
I think I'm going to especially like the autofocus feature and the swing arm (flex arm).
I'm hoping I can get some decent coin photos with it, too.

I got a better price than on that page at $172.83.
