I recently bought this token and I can't identify it. I couldn't find any thing like it on the internet.

Seems modern and is aluminum with a large 5 in the center and Alvaro Sanchez on one side, and Central Senado with a factory on the other.
26mm, 1.5mm thick

thanks for your help,
Dman95

I have to say, my first instinct on seeing the reverse image was, "that looks like a sugar mill".

Turns out that "Central Senado" was a sugar mill in Cuba, in Camaguey Province, somewhere in the vicinity of the town of Florida. Photos of the mill from 1948: https://calisphere.org/item/ark:/13030/kt2x0nc14n/

I can only assume that "Alvaro Sanchez" was the name of a farmer (or perhaps the name of a farm) within the growing district of the Central Senado mill, and these chits were used to pay the cane harvester workers. On that assumption, the token would be for "5 centavos".

Thanks SAP! What you found makes sense. I didn't see this when I was looking for answers. With the factory on it and the value seems like sugar mill scrip/company store tokens.

Thanks again,
Dman

They wouldn't make a token just for use with one steam locomotive - any such tokens would be in the name of the entire railway. I suspect the steam locomotive was named after the either the farm (?) or the same person the farm was named after.

This is listed in Rulau's Latin American Tokens 2nd Edition as "CMG 20"(Camaguey Province). At the time of printing (2000) it had a value of $30 in VF.
