... not for circulation, but in collector's sets such as proof and the semiquincentennial.
When my dad showed me his Lincoln Whitman folder starting with 1909 (and ending approx.1944) when I was 12, I was hooked. It's for this reason that I am sad that the penny won't be minted for circulation anymore.
But, in order to keep my folder up to date, when the 2026 collector's coins come out, I plan to break one open and take that 2026 penny and stick it in a folder. Nothing like beating the system!

Do whatcha gotta do!
I may end up breaking up some 2026 sets as well if I add all the Shield cents to my Dansco albums. I currently have my #7100 album ending at 2021-D, and I like the way it looks. I don't really want to add an entire extra page for the 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and eventually 2026 coins. I suppose I could, though.
Do you like housing your cents in folders rather than albums?

Nicest cents go into the 8104 album....others saved in albums and tubes. Quote: Quote: I plan to break one open and take that 2026 penny and stick it in a folder. Nothing like beating the system! I have been doing that since 2019. Heck, in some cases I've have to go back to the 1970's... The 8104 albums goes until 2033 and has a third page which is blank (36 holes) Not enough to house a set of IHCs so I have a handful of hard time tokens/store cards and plan to store them there.......

Good Luck! My observation the last couple of months is that they're drying up at businesses. Just last night Walgreens had NO PENNIES in the register till. Now....get this one folks!
At Walgreens my food item was $14.99 (no tax in Ohio). I paid with a $20 bill and they changed the register price to $14.95 so I got $5.05 back. What's in my wallet? CASH! I tell Capital One that every single day but they just keep asking me anyway! Hey, I just got 4 rewards points by using CASH.

I have been doing the same as jbuck for years now.. I buy 2 sets of uncirculated coins, one get opened and added to my albums. Ditto for the proofs and silver proofs.
But I may have to stop cracking open silver proof sets now due to cost and just buy the dime, quarters, and half dollar on the after market. (but I'll have to do a cost estimate first to see which way is cheaper..)

Anyone else think the demand for 2026 Mint & Proof sets will exceed supply ? We know the USM has fully embraced the concept of artificial scarcity for higher priced SKU's. . .I expect them to do the same with the lower end items too (along with price increases ).

I've done this for all the denominations with two exceptions. When the State Quarters series began in 1999, I couldn't find the corresponding Whitman folders where I live. I did find H. E. Harris folders, so they're what I've been using ever since for my quarters. The other exception is my type coin collection. I really love type coins, and at the time I had a little extra bread for buying higher-quality coins. So I splurged and bought a 7070 album to house them. But other than that, I'm a blue Whitman man all the way.

If the mint does not sell cents in rolls, the uncirculated sets are destined to be heavily broken up for the cent, dime and select quarters. My Lincoln Cent collection runs from 1909-1942, 1944-1982 and the 2009 coppers. Depending on price, I may remove the 2026 cents from my uncirculated set and sell them. Especially if they are Zincolns.

I am not that cynical. There is no reason for them to limit mintage numbers for these commodity items. Their mintage numbers are historically way, way higher than those SKUs getting gouged. The artificial scarcity game only works for the already much lower mintage high ticket items that tend to under sell unless there are limits. If an item with a 100k limit were offered with no limit, they are lucky to move 50k. The annual sets need no such motivation. Then again, the people in charge these days know how to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, so nothing I have said is guaranteed.
