Then you work on the next earlier type and the next later type, and all of the sudden, you've got an OFEY going.

kind my thought - If I get OFEY then I'll have lots of coins to post in the HFBCWG topic next time.

(I'm also trying to get each listed variety as well )

Why?
The more you focus on varieties, the less you can work on dates.

But, OK, that's not my thing.

Actually, looking at some of those "alignment variants," this type was hammered. Though not unheard of, it's unusual for hammered coins of this size to have any standard alignment.

Anyhow ... it's a place with an interesting history. If I recall correctly, in the mid 1550s Sweden and Russia both had ambitions of taking over Livonia, so the Grand Master of the Livonian Order came to Sigismund August of Poland-Lithuania asking for protection. So Livonia became a fief first of Lithuania, then of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth when it was formed around in 1570. Livonian coins of the 1580s-1620s have Polish rulers' names on them (Stefan Batory, SIgismund III). In the 30 Years' War, it was taken by Sweden, so if you continue your OFEY into the 1630s-1650s, you will find names like Christina and Gustavus Adolfus on the coins.
Russia takes over in the 18th century.

I haven't checked, but it's probably possible to get a majority of between about 1550 and 1650 via Livonia coins, without breaking the bank.

OK, I need to eat my words.
They were roller milled, not hammered. So coin/medal alignment makes sense.

The bad news, though is that the Numista list is incomplete. The Haljak numbers rum from 954 to 970, which means 17 varieties.

It is being updated as these varieties are identified.

Where can I find information on The Haljak numbers?

I am slowly adding them into the Numista listing, with examples and what differentiates them in the Comments section (coin vs. medal; inverted dates; punctuation). I don't have Haljak, so I need to "reverse engineer" from auctions.
https://en.numista.com/42146 is done as best as I could figure out.

(I see jbuck beat me to it, but will add one more)
OFEY = One From Every Year
OFER = One From Every Reign
HFBCWG = How Far Back Can We Go? (Main Forum Thread)

Thanks - I'm guessing that you are a mod or something on Numista?

But that doesn't mean it is correct. Do you think that the Medieval period lasted until 1600?
