Put the "E" right of "N" or "T". "US•" positioned above relief "NE". Lastly "L" isn't incuse.

What US coin series am I? And more importantly, what bat am I?

50 posts to play and win. First person to post here with both correct answers wins the uncirculated 2000 WAM pictured below. Contest is for +/- 12 hours and closes at 10am on December 28, 2025. Winner will be announced shortly after the close. Winner will need to PM me with an address and I cover the shipping.

Have a great New Year!

I can't solve the riddle, but there is only one U.S. coin series I know of that features a bat, so I'll guess:

America the Beautiful Quarters, Samoan fruit bat

Thanks for the contest and have a great New Year TB!

Pleased to have you back posting with us TB.

The coin must be an early copper, something like a large cent or perhaps later colonial issue.

Concur with igwt - your avatar is a Samoan fruit bat.

Thanks for the contest - hope others play.

First time I've posted a true stumper! Contest is officially closed, and I will have to come up with a different puzzle to give away the coin.

The answers are:

The Wheat cent

End-Of-Year-Win-A-Wam-Contest

The reverse of the Wheat cent meets all the device positions in the clue, although the tricky one was the "E" being right of the "T" as that is a different "E" (the one in STATES).

The bat was harder, but I thought the clunky construction of the clue would lead to the answer. Just take the first letter from each word, including any of the capital letters talking about the devices, and you get: Pteronotus parnellii. This is the Latin name for Parnell's mustached bat. This is a relatively small insectivorous bat of the neotropics which has much larger and sharper teeth than most bats of its size and you know what it is as soon as you grab it and it gives you a pretty painful bite.

A stumper indeed...
Very cleverly constructed
I knew I was wrong but wanted to guess anyway... that's a beauty of a 2000 WAM and I don't have one.

Thanks!

Well my last contest was more complicated but solved in maybe 15 minutes by multiple people so I figured to go a shade harder. But I will still try to give away the coin before the new year so stay tuned.

Side note, my avatar for my PCGS registry set is supposed to be the Samoan flying fox...but...check out my blog post on that coin to learn the truth.

My avatar here is an unidentified species of bat on a 2016 Austria 3 Euro coin from their Colorful Creatures series.

I enjoy the riddles... I just have not been firing on all cylinders lately.

Interesting blog post! Did you ever figure out which bat was used as a model?

I was going to guess the Wheat cent, but I hadn't a clue about the bat! Very clever!

Thanks all! And jbuck has linked to the new contest for the coin.

My collection includes most all coins with a bat on them and I was going through and doing up very detailed blog posts on them. I think I got to the 3 Euro coin and couldn't figure it out. After setting it aside I got distracted and never finished doing them all. But there are a bunch of them on the blog under the category "bat coins." It's more of a wildlife blog so those are pretty much the only coins on there.
