At an estate sale I found a penny in a box of coins that looked odd. I am trying to identify a date. It is not in good condition but maybe someone could identify it. Thanks.

It is a 2010 or later US Shield cent. You may dispose of properly.

Very badly damaged shield cent, yes. Much zinc rot present.

It's a Shield Cent with bad zinc rot from the zinc core getting exposed. Not an error. Worth 1 cent.

It was in a box of other stuff I bought at the estate sale. A lot of estate sales are just boxes of stuff. Load up a box of stuff and get it all for $5.
I doubt anyone really wants this penny. But you never know.
