"Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers
from the swift completion of their appointed rounds".

These words are chiseled in stone over the entrance to the New York City Post Office on 8th Avenue. Although the USPS does not officially have a motto, the belief that it does is a tribute to the postal workers.

We had a winter storm last weekend as did much of the region. Yesterday morning I had a doctors appointment at 8:30am which I easily navigated to. My doctors office is literally right behind the post office. I drive front wheeled drive vehicle and the roads free from ice.
It started snowing sometime between 3:30 and 6 am today. At 9:10 am I got an email from ebay that the post office attempted delivery on a package. I NEVER get my mail until atleast 1:00pm usually later..like 3 or 4:00pm. Apparently the post office isn't running today.......

Apparently, in 1914 the Generation of Postal workers were hardier (if not fool-hardier) that what we have today...

Well FedEx is even worse. Package sent from Calif to OHIO on January 23 with expected delivery on January 28. Tracking shows the packaged arriving in Columbus Ohio early on the 26th and new delivery date the 27th. Nothing. New update, delivery on the 28th, ok no problem. 4:17am update package with delivery driver, 4;19 am package at distribution center. Nothing all day. January 29th package arrived in Pennsylvania distribution center. New delivery date Friday the 30th. Friday the 30th package at Grove City Ohio. No delivery. Call FedEx told delivery will be Monday the 2nd since no delivery on Saturday.
Lo and behold, Saturday, today, package will be delivered today by 8:00pm. Finally delivered at 5:00pm.

I've had my issues with Fedex. They've delivered my packages to not 1, not 2, but 3 of my neighbors at various times. Latest issue has been them delivering my neighbors packages to me (walking past my mailbox to get to my porch). The 3rd time I spent an hour and a half trying to get hold of a Fedex agent to get the driver to come back and get the package and deliver it next door. Problem is now resolved....

I think that delivery persons look at their GPS but not the house number.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Plenty of times I had the "Informed Delivery" state that an item will or has been delivered that day and it shows up the next day or 2. I called the Postmaster General and was told don't always rely on that, it's a problem with how the delivery person enters the information into the computer for deliveries.

This is true for items that informed delivery shows a picture of for sure. And ebay's El Cheapo shipping shows as being delivered by ebay when it arrives at my post office. Packages are a supposed to be delivered the day Informed Delivery shows "out for delivery".

That's what Informed Delivery would make one think - but obviously not the case in reality.

I've never had a problem with that...other than weather related delays (which shows as such now in my informed delivery) or stupid stuff like a substitute carrier putting 1 of 2 packages in the neighbors mailbox or driving past my mailbox and flagging 2 packages as "no such address" and I'm picking them up at post office15 minutes later raising a fuss ...
