One of the photography items that I recently bought was a light box with two LED strips in the roof. I am still trying to figure out the correct settings for the exposure triangle of f-stop, ISO, shutter speed. It seems like on dull coin surfaces, the setup produces a somewhat washed out effect, but that could be my settings.
I use two light boxes. Both from DinoLite accessories. One tall with a long working distance scope, the other not as deep but wider using a wider FOV scope. Allows for good flex choices for illumination. I customized mine using purchased parts for added LED's. Some drilling & fitting was worthwhile to choose the numbers & placement of the lights. IDMAD. It do make a diff.
Prefer ISO 50 or 100. It is better for coins. f/8 is maybe the equilibrium. Not much above, not less lower. The light will guide you to the correct shutter speed. (Different kind of lights need new photo of your grey card).
I hate light boxes for coins. They always give lighting that comes in at low angles, creating highlights on the edges of the devices. You want the top surfaces to be bright, and edges to be dark, and lightboxes almost always do the opposite.
